Dit tafelkleed wordt gebruikt bij de "mayordomías", het inwijdingsfest van de "mayordomo". Tablecloth (mantelito) Handspun white cotton Acquired 1957 in Mexico City Dimensions: 110 X 75 cm (without fringe) Description: All-white textile, 'fancy gauze weave' technique. Structural patterning: plain weave with stripes of single-face weft brocading, selvage to selvage, white on white, over-4, under-2 method, combined with four various gauze techniques (fancy figured gauze weave in which weft does not go from velvage to selvage, but back and forth between twelve warp units), gives textural variation. Separately woven fringe, loose wefts are knotted into triangular points, tassels added. Basic warp and weft are of hand-spun white cotton, fringe of commercial cotton. Used by Amusgos and the Negros of the Costa Chica, for 'mayordomías'. Provenience: Huajintepec, near Ometepec.
